CSU San Marcos Knocks Off Stan State for Third Consecutive Win

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team collected its third consecutive win as Blake Seits posted a season-high 29 points in the Cougars’ 84-76 victory over Stanislaus State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Thursday night at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED •Stan State took a 14-1 lead over CSUSM with 14:12 remaining in the first half.
•The Cougars stormed back to take the lead at 26-25 on a layup and free throw by Gil-Fernandez with 4:37 to go in the half.
•The Cougars and Warriors swapped leads multiple times until Seits drained a three with three seconds remaining in the period to take a 38-36 lead to the locker room.
•Gil-Fernandez and Bryce Sloan each tallied a team-leading nine points in the first half.
•The Warriors shot 57.9% (11-of-19) from the field in the first period while the Cougars came in at 41.9% (13-of-31).
•CSUSM had a 24-2 advantage for bench points in the first 20 minutes.
•Tied at 41-all with 18:38 to play, CSUSM mounted a 12-0 run to go up 53-41 with 16:04 to go after a three by Seits.
•The Cougars took their largest lead of the game with 11:34 to go in the second half as CSUSM went up 63-45 on a Seits three.
•The Warriors tried to mount a comeback by cutting the deficit to five at 75-70 with 2:47 to play, but the Cougars didn’t allow their lead to decrease any further.
•CSUSM shot 55.6% (15-of-27) from the field in the second half and held Stan State to 40% (14-of-35).

FAST BREAKS •CSUSM improves to 11-10 (7-8 CCAA) while Stan State drops to 13-7 (9-6 CCAA).
•Seits’ 29 points were a season high while his eight rebounds tied his season best.
•Seits broke into the top 10 for the most made 3-pointers in a single season at CSUSM as he finished the night with 62 for the year.
•This is the fourth time Seits has finished with six 3-pointers this season.
•The Cougars and Warriors split the season series as Stan State won the first game of the year in Turlock by a score of 66-53.
•CSUSM now owns a 6-3 lead in the all-time series and is 3-1 in home games against Stan State.
•The Cougars’ victory snapped a three-game winning streak in the series by the Warriors.
•CSUSM ended the game with 26 bench points compared to Stan State’s six.
