CSUSM Splits Series at CSUMB

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team split its four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series at Cal State Monterey Bay as it posted a 4-3 loss in the finale at the Otter Sports Complex on Sunday.

Andrew Garcia – 2-for-5 | 2 RBI | 1 2B
Grant Buck – 2-for-3 | 2 R | 2 BB | 1 IBB

HOW IT HAPPENED •For the third consecutive game, CSUSM took a first-inning lead as a Garcia RBI double scored Buck and put the Cougars up 1-0.
•In the top of the third, Garcia put an RBI single into left before Johnson was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to put CSUSM ahead 3-0.
•The Otters responded in the bottom of the third as one run came across on an RBI fielder’s choice while a Cougar throwing error plated another run.
•CSUMB took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to right by TJ Dove and an RBI double down the left field line by Brian Morely.

QUICK HITS •CSUSM dropped to 13-17 (9-15 CCAA) while CSUMB improved to 17-13 (15-9 CCAA).
•Cougar reliever Brandon Bachman (1-3) took the loss as he allowed one run on a walk in a third of an inning.
•Otter reliever Michael Scolaro (1-0) earned the win as he allowed nothing in two-thirds of an inning.
•This is CSUSM’s first-ever series split with CSUMB, and it’s the Cougars first of the season.

UP NEXT
The Cougars will come home to face Stanislaus State in a four-game series at the CSUSM Baseball Field beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
