SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The RV/No. 23 Cal State San Marcos women’s basketball team wrapped up its 2019-20 non-conference schedule with a 69-63 victory against Concordia Irvine on Saturday night at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Cougars went on a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead in the opening quarter, but the Eagles closed the gap at 18-16 CSUSM.
•CSUSM shot 66.7% from the field (8-of-12) in the first quarter.
•Taylor Flores sunk a 3-pointer with 19 seconds remaining before CUI answered with a layup by Jasmine Rachal at the buzzer to end the half.
•The Cougars posted back-to-back 18-point quarters to take a 36-30 lead into the break.
•CUI took its first lead since the 4:10 mark of the first quarter on Savannah Felix-Amoroso’s two free throws to make it 46-44 with 1:20 remaining in the third quarter.
•The Eagles outscored CSUSM 18-9 in the third quarter to take a 48-45 lead into the final 10 minutes of the game.
•Vermillion was fouled on a made layup and followed with a good free throw to even the game at 48-48 at the 9:18 mark of the fourth quarter.
•CSUSM got hot with a 10-3 run to make it 58-51 with five minutes remaining.
•In the final minute, it came down to free throws with CSUSM going 11-of-12.
•A pair of made free throws by CUI’s Rachal cut CSUSM’s lead to 65-63 with 16 seconds remaining.
•Custodio sunk back-to-back free throws to secure the game at 69-63 with 14 seconds on the clock.
FAST BREAKS •CSUSM improved to 8-1 while CUI dropped to 3-3.
•Vermillion tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
•The Cougars recorded 19 points off CUI’s 17 turnovers.
•Forty-four of CSUSM’s 69 points came in the point.
•CSUSM shot 75% (18-of-14) from the charity stripe.
