CSU San Marcos Women’s Basketball Team Remains Undefeated

HONOLULU – The RV/No. 17 Cal State San Marcos women’s basketball team closed out the 2019 Malika Sports Tours Oahu Thanksgiving Classic with a 58-41 victory over Chaminade on Friday to remain undefeated at 7-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Cougars and Silverswords were tied at 12-all after the first quarter.
•CSUSM took a 27-23 lead over Chaminade into the break.
•Vermillion almost tallied a double-double in the opening half, recording 10 points and eight rebounds.
•The Cougars outscored Chaminade 16-11 in the third quarter with Forel leading the way with 10 points.
•CSUSM shot 43.8% (14-of-34) from the field in the second half while limiting the Silverswords to 27.6% (8-of-29).
•The Cougars largest lead of the game came on the last bucket, a 3-pointer by Kelsey Forrester with 49 seconds remaining.
•CSUSM lead wire-to-wire in the second half after five lead changes and two ties in the first half.

FAST BREAKS •The Silverswords (0-5) are still searching for their first win of the season.
•Vermillion registered her third double-double of the season.
•After finishing the first quarter tied 12-all, CSUSM won the other three quarters at 15-11, 16-11 and 15-7.
•The Cougars’ 46 rebounds matched a season high achieved against San Francisco State (Nov. 23).
•After struggling at the free throw line yesterday, the Cougars got back on course by going 8-of-10 at the charity stripe.

The Cougars return to their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schedule next week when they host Sonoma State on Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
