SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women’s basketball team clinched a 64-57 victory in its home opener against Hawaii Pacific on Friday night in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED •CSUSM held a 16-14 advantage after the first quarter. HPU only sunk 1-of-8 from the 3-point line.
•The Cougars went into the half with a 32-28 lead behind Vermillion’s 10 points after outscoring the Sharks, 16-14.
•The third quarter was tightly contested as the Cougars outscored the Sharks, 15-14.
•CSUSM took its largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter as it went up 64-55 with 15 seconds left to play.
FAST BREAKS •CSUSM improved to 1-0 on the season while Hawaii Pacific dropped to 0-1.
•The Cougars’ victory was the first season-opening win in program history.
•CSUSM was 22-of-57 (38.6 percent) while Hawaii Pacific was 16-of-60 (26.7 percent).
•The Cougars held the advantage in rebounds (48-39), assists (8-6) and blocked shots (4-3) while they made one less turnover (14-13).
