CSUSM Breaks Into Top Five of Division II National Rankings

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team (12-0, 8-0 CCAA) continued its historic rise up the NCAA Division II national rankings as the Cougars moved to No. 4 in the NABC Top 25 Coaches Poll while coming in at No. 5 in the D2SIDA Top 25 National Media Poll on Tuesday.

CSUSM’s break into the top five of the national rankings comes on the heels of defeating then-No. 4/5 and undefeated Chico State in overtime on Thursday night in Chico. With the victory, the Cougars took sole possession of first place in the CCAA standings and moved to No. 1 in the D2SIDA West Region Poll.

Off to its best start in program history, CSUSM joins Lubbock Christian (16-0) and Nova Southeastern (15-0) as the only undefeated teams remaining in Division II.

The Cougars will have another big test again this week as they travel to Cal Poly Pomona (7-4, 3-4 CCAA) for a 7:30 p.m. game on Thursday before heading over to No. 5/10 Cal State San Bernardino (13-1, 7-1 CCAA) for a 3 p.m. tipoff on Saturday.
