Cal State San Marcos has announced the appointment of Dr. Jackie Trischman as the permanent dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSTEM). Trischman has served as the interim dean since July 1, 2020.
“Dr. Trischman has done an outstanding job in her role as interim dean, and we’re delighted to have her in this position on a permanent basis,” said Carl Kemnitz, CSUSM’s provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. “I’m grateful for her leadership and contributions during the transitional period and look forward to seeing her take CSTEM to new heights.
“She has a strong commitment to student success through the promotion of engaged learning and building of community and sense of belonging. She is particularly committed to the development of student clubs, internship and co-op programming, peer and professional mentoring, connection to our local community, and to the support of undergraduate research.”
Trischman earned her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Virginia Tech and her Ph.D. in marine chemistry from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She taught organic chemistry and spectroscopy at Tulane University and UC San Diego before joining CSUSM’s Chemistry and Biochemistry Department in 1995.
During her time at CSUSM, Trischman has twice served as both Academic Senate chair and vice chair, twice served on CSUSM presidential search committees, was the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department chair from 2006-12, and is the faculty director for the EngiBeering program.
“I look forward to working with a dedicated group of campus leaders and a thriving CSTEM community as we move out of the crisis management of the last few years,” Trischman said. “The opportunity to build our physical space and our strategic directions together will be challenging and at times exasperating, but it will also be fun and fulfilling. I am excited to continue to lead a group of faculty and staff who truly understand that we are educating students who will change the world.”
