SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Senior Stephanie Custodio of women’s basketball and junior Blake Seits of men’s basketball have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for January 2020.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
With her 218th career assist in the team’s 73-59 victory over Stanislaus State, Custodio became CSUSM’s all-time assist leader after just 2.5 seasons as a Cougar. In CSUSM’s 81-70 victory over Humboldt State, Custodio tallied a career-high 27 points. For the year, Custodio’s free-throw percentage of 82.4 ranks third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and her 4.3 assists per game rank fifth. She averaged 10.1 points, 3.57 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game in January.
Seits led CSUSM with 16.2 points per game, 33 3-point field goals and a 76.0 free-throw percentage while averaging 4.1 rebounds per game in January. The Ramona native tallied three games with at least 20 points and made six 3-point field goals in each of those games. In the final game of the month against Stanislaus State, Seits posted a season-high 29 points. Earlier in the month, he was named the CCAA Player of the Week.
Custodio and Seits will return to action at Chico State on Saturday. The women’s game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m.
