I am sorry to announce we have lost a wonderful man – a Christian, my sweet husband, a father, a grandfather, and wonderful friend to so many. The loss of Dal has shocked many who recall him as a robust larger-than-life man. He traveled through life in many different careers. There was the high school and college jock, the decorated USMC officer, the college instructor, the avid photographer, the basketball, softball, and football official – especially basketball official – the politician who served on both the Vista Planning Commission and the Vista City Council, the actor in a one-run appearance in a Moonlight Theater production, the gourmet cook, the guide and helpmate to numbers of people who were interested in genealogy…. He made an impression upon so many. He was a man who treasured family and had tremendous faith.

Dal was a lifelong student who loved this country and its history. He and I enthusiastically explored parts of America, particularly the Southwest, on our many camping trips. Our favorite non-camping trip was driving east on Route 66 all the way to Chicago and, because we enjoyed it so much, we took Route 66 west on the way back home.

Dal always tried to leave people better than he found them. He led an extraordinary life and had a beautiful faith. We will always cherish our memories of him, and he will be sorely missed.

Dal’s funeral Mass will be at St. Patrick’s Church at 3821 Adams St. in Carlsbad at 1pm on Monday, May 20th, followed by a reception at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center at 1580 Cannon Rd., also in Carlsbad. All who knew him are welcome to attend either or both.
