SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Redshirt senior women’s soccer player Briana Daoust and senior men’s cross country runner Joshua Litwiller have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for October 2019.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Daoust scored a team-high four goals for the month and tallied eight points. She had two game-winning goals against San Francisco State and Chico State. Against the Gators, Daoust netted a penalty kick to knot the game at 1-1. She later scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to give the Cougars a 2-1 win. Against the Wildcats, Daoust had the golden goal in overtime by heading a shot into the net on a free kick by teammate Jessica Harloe. For the season, Daoust leads CSUSM with four goals and nine points.
Litwiller was named the CCAA Runner of the Year after winning the men’s 8K at the 2019 CCAA Championships with a time of 24:40.28. He became CSUSM’s eighth CCAA individual champion and the first in cross country. Litwiller’s victory broke a string of 11 consecutive individual titles by Chico State. He also earned All-CCAA honors for the third consecutive season. Earlier in October, Litwiller placed seventh out of 420 runners at the Lewis Crossover.
Daoust and the rest of the women’s soccer team will travel to Cal State Dominguez Hills to face the Toros on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Litwiller and the men’s cross country team will head to Monmouth, Oregon, for the NCAA West Regionals on Nov. 9 at 11:15 a.m.
