Death Investigation Vista Detention Facility

On October 7, 2020, at about 8:30 p.m., deputies at the Vista Detention Facility responded to an inmate who was in medical distress. Deputies found the inmate, thirty-one-year-old Adam Terrance Rogers, unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and medical staff performed lifesaving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Unfortunately, Rogers was pronounced deceased at the facility.
Rogers was booked into custody by Oceanside Police Department on July 26, 2020, for the primary charges of:
220(a) PC – Assault with the Intent to Commit Rape
273.5(a) PC – Domestic Violence with Injury
459 PC – Burglary
273.6(a) PC – Violate Domestic Violence Protective Order
220(a)(1) PC – Assault to Commit Rape
236 / 237(a) PC – False Imprisonment with Violence
220(b) PC – Assault with the Intent to Commit Rape During a Burglary
The Homicide Unit responded to investigate the death. No evidence of foul play was discovered. The Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and completed their reports. They determined the cause of death to be acute fentanyl, alcohol, and citalopram intoxication and the manner of death to be accident.
