Escondido, CA — October 13, 2025 — Visitors to the California Center for the Arts, Escondido will soon come face-to-face with dragons, dinosaurs, and desert legends as world-renowned artist Ricardo Breceda brings his towering metal sculptures to the Center’s Arrival Court on Tuesday, October 14 from 11am to 4pm.
The installation marks a special pop-up exhibition that brings the wild spirit of Borrego Springs to North County. Known for his massive “Sky Art” sculptures that dot the Anza-Borrego Desert, Breceda has captivated audiences across the world with his ability to transform raw steel into lifelike creatures of myth and history.
Now, for a limited time, audiences can experience Breceda’s work up close without leaving the city. The Escondido installation will feature several of his most recognizable creations — including a dinosaur, rattlesnake and majestic rams — each crafted as a tribute to California’s rugged landscapes and rich imagination. Additionally, if you visit the sculptures and post creative photos or videos with the #BorregoSculpted you will be entered to win a 2-night stay at the Borrego Springs Resort. “This installation is a celebration of both Breceda’s artistry and the Borrego Springs community,” said Jennifer Sencion of Borrego Community Builders, an initiative focused on sustainability, housing, and revitalization in the rural area. “We wanted to share a piece of the desert with San Diego County and shine a light on the creativity and resilience that thrive in Borrego Springs.”
The pop-up also offers a preview of two brand-new sculptures Breceda will debut in Borrego Springs this November. Alongside the monumental works, the Escondido installation will include educational displays and family art activities and opportunities to meet the artist beginning at 11am. The installation will be open to the public for one day only, Tuesday October 14, at the Arrival Court of the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, 340 N. Escondido Blvd. For more information, visit ArtCenter.org or follow the Center on social media for event updates and photos.
