On December 24, 2019 at approximately 10:12 AM, 49 year old David Torres was involved in an argument with his girlfriend inside their residence located in the 2151 S. Santa Fe Ave., in the city of Vista. The residence is an independent living complex with numerous other residents inside at the time of the incident. During the argument, Torres used a knife in an attempt to attack his girlfriend. As Deputies arrived on scene they attempted to contact Torres when he stated if they entered the residence he would shoot them with a shotgun. Deputies successfully evacuated all other occupants of the residence leaving only Torres inside.
Deputies attempted to contact Torres numerous times to get him to exit the residence and surrender with negative results. A small contingent from the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED) arrived to assist the Vista Patrol units on scene. A search warrant was obtained by the Vista Detectives unit.
After approximately six hours of attempting to gain compliance from Torres, Vista Patrol and SED deputies deployed OC agent inside Torres’ room and served the search warrant. As entry was made to the residence Torres continued to ignore Deputies directions to exit his room. A Sheriff’s canine was deployed inside the room and contacted Torres. Torres was taken into custody. He was transported to Tri- City Hospital for minor injuries.
Torres was later booked into the Vista Detention Facility for 273.5 (a) PC Domestic Violence, 422 (a) PC Criminal Threats, and 236 PC False Imprisonment.
