Every 10 years, cities with by-district election systems must use new census data to review and – if needed – redraw district lines to reflect how local populations have changed. This process, called redistricting, ensures all districts have a nearly equal population.

The City of San Marcos has conducted two of four required public hearings for the redistricting process, which must be completed by April 17, 2022. A draft map is now available for review on the City’s redistricting webpage. The draft map keeps the district lines as close to the original lines as possible, while making them compliant with the law.

Residents can view the current and draft map comparison and draft map census data.

The San Marcos City Council will hold two additional public hearings to receive input on February 8 and March 8. Both meetings are happening at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1 Civic Center Drive, San Marcos.

Questions can be directed to Phil Scollick, city clerk, at cityclerk@san-marcos.net or (760) 744-1050.
