On Sunday, June 4, 2023, at approximately 1:54 am, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a single-vehicle collision west of State Route 76 and Airport Road. The crash occurred when a 2003 Nissan Maxima traveling eastbound on SR-76 lost control. The vehicle collided with a large tree on the south shoulder of the roadway. Officers and paramedics arrived to find that the car’s rear passenger, a Hispanic male approximately thirty years old, had sustained fatal injuries due to the collision. The driver and front seat passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, and it is suspected that alcohol and speed were a factor in the collision. The driver, twenty-nine-year-old Guillermo Sanchez Pacheco of Oceanside, was arrested for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter. The deceased’s name is withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
