On July 9, Battalion Chief Jeff Sargis was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief. Chief Sargis will oversee the Operations Division. Chief Sargis began his career with the Escondido Fire Department as a Firefighter Paramedic in 1998. Jeff promoted to Engineer in 2004, he was then promoted to Captain in 2013. In2018, Jeff was promoted to Battalion Chief. Chief Sargis holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration from Waldorf University and his Chief Officer Certification from the California State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Captain Brian Salazar was promoted to Battalion Chief in charge of B shift on July 23. Chief Salazar was hired with Fire Department as an Emergency Medical Technician in 2000. He was promoted to Firefighter Paramedic in 2001 and then to Fire Engineer in 2014. In 2017 Brian was promoted to Fire Captain. Jeff holds an AA degree in Fire Science from Palomar college and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration from Waldorf University.
On July 15 six fire personnel were deployed to Riverside to battle the Rabbit and Gavilan fires. All crews returned safety by July 20.
