On October 6, the engine and ladder truck crews from Fire Station #1 assisted San Diego Fire and Rescue Department with locating, treating and transporting an injured hiker in the area near Lake Hodges. Firefighters found an adult male experiencing medical problems that required immediate transportation to a hospital. The San Diego Fire and Rescue Departments helicopter was utilized to transport the patient from a remote location directly to Palomar Hospital. The patient’s dog, who was with him on in the hike, was also located and cared for by firefighters until family arrived to retrieve him.
Escondido Fire Captain Matt Collins, who is assigned a leader of the North County Rapid Extraction Module (REMS) team, is providing rescue and medic service for personnel still working at the Mosquito Fire in Placer and El Dorado Counties. The terrain is rugged, remote and inaccessible by vehicles or helicopters. In the event of an injury, the REMS team is able to bring advance life support care to the location as well as technical recue so the victim can be brought to a hospital.
