On October 24, the Police and Fire Communication center received a call about a small accidental release of Methyl Mercaptan, the additive to natural gas that creates the “smell of gas”. Fire crews arrived at Cryogenic industries, were able to safely isolate the area and evacuated the premises. San Diego City and County Hazmat
were dispatched to the incident to provide expertise and further mitigation. The incident was safely resolved in less than 2 hours. No injuries or property damage was reported.
Also, on October 24th, Girls Scout Troop #2059 arrived for their planned visit and tour to Fire Station 7. The event was well attended and a great time was had by all.
On October 28, Fire crews were dispatched to reports of a vehicle fire in the area of Chestnut St and Pine Tree Pl. When crews arrived, they discovered a fully engulfed vehicle. Firefighters rapidly extinguished the fire and contained it to the vehicle without further spread.
Also, on October 28, Escondido Fire had the privilege of taking part in the “Trunk or Treat” event located at the Woodward Parking Lot. Fire crews from Station 1 had a great time passing out treats and showing the Fire vehicles to all who attended.
Escondido Fire, along with the Escondido Police Department and California Highway Patrol, also participated in the Harvest Festival Event, at the Emmanuel Faith Church Campus. Fire crews from Station 1 and 5 passed out treats to all. Events like this are so important to our community, and we here at Escondido Fire are honored to be able to spend this time with our residents.
