On August 7, Escondido Fire deployed our OES Brush Patrol from Station #2 with firefighters as part of a strike team with crews from Encinitas, Oceanside and San Bernardino County to the Six Rivers Lightning Fire Complex in Humboldt and Trinity Counties. Battalion Chief Sargis and Captain Beverly were also deployed as the strike team leaders. After a two-day drive to get to the fires, the strike team has been used to support multiple firing operations designed to burn out fuel between control lines and the fire. The strike team is expected to be deployed for 14-16 days.
On August 10, the Escondido Police and Fire Departments responded to a single vehicle traffic collision on Bear Valley Parkway involving a pest control vehicle. The accident caused a spill of a large quantity of rat poison. Firefighters consulted with San Diego County Hazmat and cleaned up/disposed of the product safety.
On August 11, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of an outdoor fire in the area of Jesmond Dene Park. The first Engine Captain located several small vegetation fires in the northwest corner of the park. The fires were quickly extinguished and the cause of the fires is under investigation.
On August 13, the crew of Escondido firefighters that were deployed to the McKinney Fire in Siskiyou County returned home safely after an 11-day assignment with a strike team of OES brush engines from north county.
