Escondido History Center Book On Sale

A brand-new pictorial history of Escondido is now available from the Escondido History Center. The handsome hard-bound 248-page coffee table book, Escondido, a Pictorial History of the Hidden Valley, features hundreds of full-color and black-and-white photographs that depict Escondido’s earlier history while also detailing significant events that occurred in the last 30 years since the last detailed history was written.

When a publishing company approached the Escondido History Center with a proposal to create a fundraiser, the task of selecting the photos from thousands in the History Center collection fell upon Executive Director Robin Fox with assistance from Board Vice President Carol Rea and the pair went on to write the captions and the introductions to the chapters. “It was a unique experience to delve this deeply into Escondido’s history and help organize the chapters,” according to Rea, “but most impressive was Robin’s knowledge of her home town. She’s a walking encyclopedia when it comes to Escondido history!” Ultimately, the book was supported by numerous sponsors who made the printing possible – businesses, organizations, and families with historic connections to the city and their stories are included in the book, as well.

Escondido, a Pictorial History of the Hidden Valley is priced at $79.95 and can be ordered online at www.escondidohistory.org. The book is also offered for sale by appointment at the Escondido History Center on the north side of Grape Day Park. To schedule a time to see it, call 760-743-8207.
