Community Service Officer, Bobbi Akans and her team have been busy planning this year’s Shop with a Cop event. The Escondido Police Department was honored to be picked as the host agency this year for this amazing event. If you aren’t familiar with it, Shop with a Cop is an annual event that involves 30 different law enforcement agencies. Students are selected from each agencies areas, and uniformed officers drive them in marked vehicles down to Sea World for a show and breakfast and then to Target for a shopping spree.
A few fun facts about this year’s event:
Event day is Saturday, December 3
Since we are the host agency this year, we will be taking 17 students; one from each of our 17 public elementary schools. We usually pick one school and only take 5-10 students. We have also included the late Officer Brett Byler’s daughter to our crew for a total of 20 children!
The entire agency is involved; from sworn officers who transport and hang out with the students that day, to fundraising helpers, organizers and all aspects of the event that are handled by sworn and civilian alike.
This year we will be doing a “meet and greet” with the selected students on December 1. The student and parent will come enjoy dinner with the participating officers and receive their Shop with a Cop t-shirt.
The 2022 logo was created by 15-year-old Kiana Cheatham (daughter of retired Sgt, Fred Cheatham). Kiana will be attending the Meet and Greet and will be recognized for her artwork.
We have some fun fundraising going on for the event also. T-shirts, challenge coins, and pins can be purchased at the PD. T-shirts (S-2XL) are $15.00, challenge coins are $10.00, and pins are $5.00. Or join us for one of our 2 upcoming fundraisers.
