On January 1, 2020, Johnny Burns stabbed Jose DeJesus Martinez in the neck at the Burger King at 1310 W. Valley Pkwy during an argument over a 1983 chrome GT BMX style bicycle. Martinez died from his injuries. Johnny was arrested the following day and has remained in
custody until the jury trial, which began on August 9, 2021. On August 23, the jury returned a verdict of guilty for 2nd degree murder with a deadly weapon allegation. Due to Burns’ prior strike and criminal history, he is looking at 36 years to life in prison.
On August 24, witnesses called EPD to report an individual who was actively tagging signs at City Hall with a black marker. The suspect was quickly taken into custody.
