Improvements to the Escondido Creek Trail are in the final stretch! Temporary day-to-day closures remain on the north and south sides as crews wrap up construction. Behind the current work zones, finishing touches on the pavement and native planting are taking shape.
While crews make progress, several exciting features are coming together to create a more connected and vibrant Creek Trail.

You’ve been patient through construction. Now it’s time to celebrate! The City of Escondido is hosting an exciting event to commemorate the completion of the Creek Trail improvements. You’re invited to be among the first to explore the trail’s new features up close. Be ready to grab a creek-inspired passport, hit the interactive booths, score some prizes, and see the transformation for yourself.

Look Down, the Pavers Tell a Story
Next time you’re near the Date Street Bridge, look down. The decorative pavers on both sides of the trail are finished, featuring Native American basket weaving patterns that honor the heritage of Escondido’s Indigenous Peoples. They’re not just beautiful to walk on, they’re built to hold up against rough weather, meaning a smoother, longer-lasting path for you.
The Creek Trail is About to Get Greener
Bursts of color are coming to the Creek Trail. California-native plants and mulch are being sprinkled throughout from the west to east side, transforming stretches of construction zones into vibrant palettes of greenery. While these plants take a few months to establish, once they’re in full bloom, your morning walk or afternoon bike ride will have a whole new backdrop.
Paving the Way to a Smoother Creek Trail Experience
Whether you ride, walk, or run on the Creek Trail, you’ll notice the difference right away. Freshly paved asphalt is already down, and crews are now applying a seal coat, a protective layer that blocks water, oils and UV damage, so the surface stays smooth longer. That means fewer future repairs disrupting your route. Work is moving in sections between Broadway and Midway Drive, with temporary closures where sealing is taking place. Access reopens as each section is finished.

Businesses along the Creek Trail Corridor remain open during construction and appreciate your support — so be sure to stop by and shop locally throughout the year.

About the project
Construction for the Escondido Creek trail began in February 2025. Work will take place from Citracado Parkway to North Midway Drive, with construction generally moving from west to east. The project is expected to be completed in late 2025, pending any unforeseen delays. Construction hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the exception of city-recognized holidays.
