Celebrate July is Parks & Rec Month
Since 1985, the United States has recognized and celebrated July as Parks and Recreation Month as an avenue to build strong communities by promoting physical activity, creating memorable experiences, fostering social connections, supporting mental health and wellbeing, sustaining environmental resources, strengthening community identity, and facilitating safe environments. This year’s theme is “Where Community Grows” which celebrates the vital role that parks and recreation professionals play in maintaining our community resources and improving quality of life.
The Community Services Department is hosting a variety of free and low cost activities in celebration of July is Parks and
Recreation Month including free community swim, drop-in mobile recreation, roller skating, and open gym basketball. The Summer Glow Pool Party on Saturday July 15 is only $5 per person. Held in the evening from 7:30 – 10 p.m. at Washington Park Pool, it includes music, games, crafts, glow sticks, and the unique thrill of night swimming under the watchful eye of our dedicated lifeguards.
In addition to these activities, there are opportunities to win prizes and displays at City Hall, the East Valley Community Center, Park Avenue Community Center, and Escondido Sports Center sharing the amazing offerings provided by the dedicated Recreation staff that support the community through people, parks, and programs.
