In September, the City recognizes Pollution Prevention Month and invites young residents to learn about how to be good stewards of their local environment through the Watershed Literacy Program, a partnership between the City’s Environmental Programs Division and the Escondido Public Library.

This year, Penny S. (pictured) won the program raffle after completing her Watershed Literacy Activity participant packet, which included tasks such as researching definitions of key watershed vocabulary, conducting a 30-minute neighborhood cleanup, and illustrating her own watershed superhero. Great work, Penny!

This winter, Environmental Programs once again invites Escondido kids to think about water by completing the “My Winter Water Journal,” which features a set of seven brief writing prompts that challenge young residents to reflect on how people use, save, pollute, and protect water resources each day for a week.

This program does not include a raffle; instead, participants are invited to share their water resource PSA they created at the end of their week of journaling for it to be featured on the Environmental Programs webpage and/or the City’s social media pages.

Pick up your own “My Winter Water Journal” at City Hall, or download the print-ready PDF. For more information about the City’s Environmental Programs Division and our outreach programs, visit: www.escondido.gov/EnvironmentalPrograms
