On October 28, 2022the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of smoke at 155 E Grand Ave. Upon arrival, Firefighters found smoke coming from the basement at Plan 9 Alehouse, requested a full first alarm commercial response and evacuated the building. Firefighters found that kettle for brewing ale had been used which ignited nearby combustibles. The smoldering fire in the space between the first floor and the basement was extinguished and the smoke was removed. There were no injuries and no damage to adjoining businesses.
On October 29, 2022 the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center a report of a structure fire in a home on East Washington Ave. Firefighters arrived and found a smoldering fire in a travel trailer in the driveway of the home. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the person living in the trailer was evaluated for injuries.
Also, on October 29, Battalion Chief Jeff Sargis, along with the Engine and Ambulance crews from Fire Station #5 (Felicita), attended the Emmanuel Faith Harvest Festival. Firefighters passed out candy and provided tours of the fire equipment. During the event, Firefighters were approached by the grandmother of a 12-year-old girl named Abbey. Abbey is a survivor of an accident that occurred on October 21 of this year. Abbey was struck by a fast-moving vehicle while crossing the street. She sustained severe injuries and was treated and transported to Children’s Hospital by the Firefighters at Station #2 (North Midway). Abbey does not recall the incident, but fortunately, she is expected to make a full recovery. Abbey and her grandmother were happy to meet and share their story with the Firefighters.
