This past week, Officer Paul Azzam was recognized at the San Diego Police Officers Association’s 31st Annual Peace Officer of the Year Awards ceremony as Escondido’s Officer of the year. Officer Azzam was one of 19 officers from throughout San Diego County who was recognized for his exceptional policing efforts. Officer Azzam made a staggering 214 arrests in 2022 and also helped an elderly man escape from a burning building. Chief Varso, who was one of four speakers at the event, was honored to present Officer Azzam with his award.
