The Vista Community Clinic (VCC) Optometry department is proud to announce the acquisition of another state of the art piece of medical equipment to aide in the diagnosis and treatment of several eye conditions/diseases. VCC has acquired the Topcon Maestro 2 Optical coherence tomography (OCT). The OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-sectional pictures of the back of the eye to help detect retinal abnormalities.
The process for the patient is easy and painless. The equipment scans the eye, without touching it, and usually takes less than a minute.
The OCT is often used to evaluate disorders of the retina, including (but not limited to):
• Diabetic retinopathy (instrumental in ruling-out or confirming diabetic macular edema)
• Retinal damage due to hypertension
• Glaucoma
• Age-related macular degeneration
• Macular edema
• Central serous retinopathy
• Hydroxychloroquine retinopathy
• Retinal injuries (LASER, blunt-force, etc)
• Retinal tumors
All clinic locations have been strictly following county guidelines on health and safety procedures, and performing a rigorous disinfecting process throughout the day as well. VCC offers optometry care in two of its North County, Vista, locations – VCC: Vale Terrace and VCC: Grapevine. Appointments are currently available and the clinic is accepting new patients. To make an appointment or find out more, please call or text VCC at 844.308.5003.
