Fall Fun Festival at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens – Our Best Ever!

The 2021 Fall Fun Festival at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens was a GREAT day with 1000 people (including vendors and volunteers) attending!

Our 13th Fall Festival featured GREAT teamwork including AVBG Board members, members of The Woman’s Club of Vista GFWC, and 80 student volunteers from Vista High School, Mission Vista High School, Rancho Buena Vista High School, Palomar College, and the Miss Vista Pageant.

Moving in for a year of display in the Children’s Garden is a GREAT new collection of 40 scarecrows which were constructed at home again this year. Excited and eager families enjoyed their creative time together and echoed time and time again, “We had so much fun!” The new lineup of scarecrow visitors will welcome all to the Children’s Garden until August 2022.
Scarecrow contest winners are … Drumroll please!

1st Prize – Soroptimist International of Vista created and sponsored their I Love Lucy scarecrow; she’s wearing a smile and a wink. Who doesn’t love Lucy?

2nd Prize – Girl Scout Juniors Luna and Sienna created their colorfully detailed Willow the Scarecrow, sponsored by Judy Pantazo.

3rd Prize – Sofia and Maria Vergara hooted their way into our scarecrow lineup with a cool owl scarecrow which was sponsored by ADU Gurus.

And a SPECIAL AWARD went to the sparkly Fall scarecrow that Emma and Ashlynn created, sponsored by Vista Firefighters.

Winners in the Scarecrow Contest chose from gift card prizes donated by Lamppost Pizza, Little Cakes, and Best Pizza. Thank you for supporting and sponsoring our Scarecrow Contest!
Prizes for the Door Prize Drawing were a Family Membership in AVBG and gift boxes donated by Naomi and Bill Stein, AVBG Board members. We appreciate your support!

This year’s Scarecrow Contest was sponsored by 34 businesses, families and individuals who donated to support Alta Vista Botanical Gardens and keep Vista’s OWN Botanical Garden going and growing. Ads for these sponsors will be posted on the scarecrows and in kiosks around the Gardens all year.

Intriguing activities for the children were organized and managed by our smiling Donna Weber.
The Plant Sale included a variety of succulents, vegetables and flowering bedding plants, and exciting indoor foliage greenery and fall color.

20 Vendors organized by our gracious Rusti Dixon lined the driveway, offering crafts, jewelry, plants, and ice cream. Amigos de Vista Lions returned with their BBQ lunch to support the Gardens.
Publicity was posted in online and print news outlets, along with a month-long blitz on Facebook created by two AVBG volunteers, Dana Kern and Joey Schmitt. The AVBG Facebook page is www.fb.com/vistaavbg The AVBG website is altavistabotanicalgardens.org
A hard year was made a bit easier for our community – we encouraged creativity and family time, we shared time outdoors in nature, and we had tremendous support from local businesses and schools.
