FALLBROOK, Calif.- On Friday, May 10, 2024, at approximately 11:18 p.m., officers from the California Highway Patrol-Oceanside Area Office responded to reports of a traffic collision on State Route 76, east of Horse Ranch Creek Road, in unincorporated San Diego County.
An unidentified individual was driving a silver Chrysler 300 eastbound on State Route 76, east of Horse Ranch Creek Road. A 58-year-old male was driving a white Jeep Gladiator westbound on State Route 76, east of Horse Ranch Creek Road. A 56-year-old male was driving a silver Toyota Camry westbound on State Route 76, behind the Jeep. For reasons still under investigation, the Chrysler veered to the left, into oncoming traffic, and collided with the front of the Jeep. The Toyota was involved in a minor side-swipe with the Jeep after the first impact.
The California Highway Patrol and North County Fire Protection District responded to the scene. Unfortunately, the drivers of the Chrysler and Jeep succumbed to their injuries, along with two adult passengers of the Jeep. A third adult passenger of the Jeep suffered major injuries.
It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a factor in this collision. The investigation is ongoing, and the CHP is asking anyone who has information or may have witnessed this incident to contact the Oceanside Area CHP office at (760) 643-3400. The identity of the deceased will be released through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
