On 07/13/2019 at about 1353 hours, traffic deputies from the San Marcos Station responded to a radio call of a vehicle verses a pedestrian in a wheelchair at Pico Avenue and W. San Marcos Boulevard. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the 39 year old female driver of a Toyota Tacoma had made a left turn from the 76 gas station onto Pico Avenue. An 81 year old male in a motorized wheelchair was crossing Pico Avenue midblock when he was struck by the vehicle. The male was transported to Palomar Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. Alcohol or drugs is not believed to be a factor in the collision. The San Marcos Traffic Unit and S.T.A.R. Team members are handling the investigation
