Fatal Traffic Collision in San Marcos Vehicle versus Bicyclist

On March 23rd, 2022, at about 8:09 pm, deputies from the San Marcos Station responded to an unknown injury traffic collision involving a bicyclist near the intersection of Pico Avenue and West Mission Road, in the City of San Marcos. Upon arrival, deputies learned a Ford Ice Cream truck collided with a bicyclist while turning west onto West Mission Road from the northbound lanes of Pico Avenue. According to witnesses on scene, the Ford was turning with a green light and the bicyclist was traveling southwest across the intersection against a red light. The 26-year-old male bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene and the 63-year-old male driver of the Ford did not sustain any injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision and the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet. No arrests have been made at this time.
