SAN DIEGO — A federal judge in San Diego has struck down California’s policy requiring teachers to keep a student’s gender identity confidential from parents, issuing a summary judgment and permanent injunction that could reshape school practices statewide and beyond.
The Dec. 22 ruling by U.S. District Court Roger Benitez found parents have a constitutional right to be informed if their child socially transitions at school and that teachers cannot be compelled to conceal such information.
