On August 19, Councilmember Joe Garcia rode along with Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Sargis for several hours. In addition to observing the normal daily routine of facility and vehicle maintenance and training, he was able to see firsthand how firefighters handle multiple
emergency responses. The on-duty firefighters appreciated Councilmember Garcia’s interest and investment of his time.
On August 20, Escondido Fire was dispatched to the area of Northbound I-15 and Eastbound Highway 78 for a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian. Upon arrival, firefighters found an adult male who had been struck and killed. The Highway 78 remained closed for several hours while CHP investigated.
On August 20, firefighters were dispatched to the area of East Valley Parkway and Lake Wohlford Road for a reported vegetation fire. On arrival, firefighters found and extinguished a small fire burning in the understory of several eucalyptus trees.
During extinguishment, an adult male transient was found hiding in the brush. The male was questioned and released and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
