First Community Forum for Bub Williamson Park Was Held

At the first of two community workshops, the City of Vista Project Manager, Tony Winney, and the Landscape Architect for ASRLA Inc., Andrew Reese, explained the project history to date and gave the attendees an opportunity to provide their personal feedback on project related issues that were important to them. The meeting lasted about 1 1/2 hours and was very productive. The following is a list of the items that were discussed:

Park will be locked -new gate
Hours T.B.D.
Safety and Security – To be discussed subsequently
Pedestrian access at Huff St. -to be opened
Huff closed now due to security concerns
Three areas in dog park – Large/small/extra area
Will the City rent out portion of the park for events – parking?
No amplified sound without permit
Remove gazebo- Bring forward the gathering area to front
Theme/fun – school-like – murals/art
Dog park vs trail system-nature/walk
Loop walking
Possible desire to expand (to full 9 acres)
Concern for North Area at Ruby-not utilized
Gates at North (Ruby area) – Prevent vehicles
Crime/Safety in canyon – trash cleanup/maintenance (Policing)
Softball fence be removed between terraces – resulting in multi purpose area
Fence (rail) along West walk (catch balls) (decorative)
Pollution concerns from dog park
Utilize the whole area – return on investment
Trail in harmony with nature
Ball parks were under utilized
Community has been patient with the progress
Process will start with element/programming
Concern for whole but details too
Environmental concerns – water course
Drought Tolerant material/native
Water run off – protect bio diversity
Reactivate bigger park area to assist with security
Abutting developer land/trail option
“Natural” aesthetic looking play equipment
Maintenance/security furnishings
Want to keep turf/Gazebo near restrooms
Possible largest children’s play area
Bicycle racks
Dogs to move through kids area – concern for safety
Provide option to expand play as demographic changes
Add adult fitness equipment
Program for restroom – concession
Concern for offsite sidewalks
No shade sails – concern for graffiti/fire hazard
Long term vandalism at play area
Options for expansion to West
Remove restroom – or adjust
Vandalism
Signage & graphics – specialist
Want a true neighborhood park – Not single use

The next Community Park Design Workshop will be Thursday, November 16 at 6pm.
