A beautiful chaotic mess, “Friend of the World” is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller with a dark and intriguing twist written and directed by San Diego native Brian Butler. The film is shot on location in San Diego and stars two locale theater actors, Alexandra Slade as Diane, a young art filmmaker, and Nick Young as Gore, a U.S. Military General, who finds themselves at odds, yet dependent on each other, as they navigate the broken landscape and their psyches to survive. Shot in black and white “Friend of the World” pays an eerie homage to the films of old that birthed this genre including its distinctive and sometimes shocking audio that accompanies the unique visuals. Originally written in 2016, the film and its characters echo a disturbing truth that is currently plaguing our nation today and capture the sense of isolation that was once thought to only exist in movies. “Friend of the World” is Butlers first feature film and will have its virtual world premiere August 15th at 12:00 pm PDT at the 2020 Oceanside International Film Festival
