After 40 years of serving coffee, delicious donuts and lots of smiles, Sharon Mickelson officially closes the doors to Frogy’s Donuts on Wednesday February 28th. Following a week of celebrations and accolades for the popular donut shop, Sharon, who had decided to retire and finally get some well-deserved rest, has decided to hang-up her apron after working both 6- and 7-day weeks for the past 40 years at the same location.
Frogy’s has been an active member of the business community, sponsoring many activities, youth sports teams and providing unsold donuts to a variety of groups and organizations. Last Sunday, Peter Kuchinsky and a group of loyal friends and customers put together a “community” celebration for Sharon, decorating the donut shop with balloons, flowers and a retirement cake. Also provided for those showing up was Taquiras Evelyn serving delicious street tacos with all the trimmings. Attending the event with Sharon was son Jonathan and daughter Melinda. Sharon’s other daughter, Rochelle, was out of the country.
On Tuesday of this week, Mayor John Franklin and Council Members Corinna Contreras and Joe Green presented Sharon with a proclamation from the City of Vista for her 40 years of service and commitment to the City of Vista. Also in attendance at the celebration of Sharon’s retirement and Frogy’s closing was Vista Chamber of Commerce CEO Rachel Beld and Chamber Director of First Impressions Kent Leithold, also honoring Sharon, as well as a number of close friends and loyal customers. Throughout the morning, prior to the ceremony, customers who were unable to stay came in to purchase donuts and coffee, showing their support for the final days Frogy’s would be open.
Good luck and Happy Well-Deserved Retirement Sharon!
