SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) called on Governor Gavin Newsom to veto legislation that would promote open-air solicitation of prostitution and enable human trafficking.
In his letter, Gallagher noted that California already has the highest number of human trafficking cases and that the enactment of Senate Bill 357 (Wiener) would only increase the current, unacceptably high levels of prostitution and human trafficking.
“Californians are witnessing first-hand the devastating effects of Sacramento’s failed criminal justice experiment,” said Gallagher. “Taking more tools away from law enforcement is the exact opposite of what we should be doing. Governor Newsom can take a step in the right direction by issuing a veto of this crazy legislation.”
