The Oceanside City Council approved a spending plan for COVID-19-related CARES funding, which includes $100,000 for grants to Oceanside small businesses. Eligible businesses include independently owned consumer-oriented businesses engaged in retail sales and consumer/business services located in Oceanside that have been mandated by the Public Health Order to close or significantly alter their business activity due to COVID-19.

Grants ranging from $1,000 to $5000 will be awarded based on business type and financial impact of COVID-19. The selection process will take into consideration the year-over-year financial impact on the applicants, as well as the way they’ve had to alter their business operations to comply with State and County Public Health Orders.

The City of Oceanside partnered with MainStreet Oceanside and the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce to facilitate the program and disburse funds to eligible Oceanside businesses. MainStreet will manage a grant program for eligible Downtown businesses, and the Chamber of Commerce will manage a grant program for businesses citywide (outside of MainStreet’s District).

“To help mitigate impacts to Oceanside small businesses financially affected by regulations, the City is happy to announce this program as we continue to navigate these challenging times,” said Mayor Peter Weiss. “A second round of CARES Act funding may allow for future expansion of the grants for our businesses.”
