Greg Mayer Named Engineering Director at the City of Vista

Vista, CA (November 21, 2023) – The City of Vista is pleased to announce the promotion of Greg Mayer, P.E., to Engineering Director, effective November 6, 2023. Following interviews and the unanimous recommendation from stakeholder groups comprising community members, City leadership, and staff, City Manager John Conley selected Mayer for the position. Mayer has served the City of Vista for the past 15.5 years and has held the title of Acting Engineering Director since March 15, 2023. Previously, he held the positions of Principal Engineer and City Engineer at the City of Vista. The position of Engineering Director has been open since March 2023, when John Conley was promoted to City Manager.

Mayer is a licensed Professional Engineer with 32 years of professional civil engineering experience. Following 10 years in the private sector as a consulting engineer, Mayer began the public service portion of his career with the City of Oceanside in 1998. After 7 years in Oceanside, Mayer joined the City of Vista, where he currently manages the four divisions of the Engineering Department: Traffic, Sewer/Storm Water Utilities, Capital Improvement Program, and Land Development.

His experience at the City of Vista includes leading priority projects, including the Paseo Santa Fe Streetscape projects, skateparks, fire stations, Sherriff’s stations, the Townsite Complete Streets project, and over $220M of other public infrastructure projects, including streets, drainage, and sewer infrastructure projects.
