SACRAMENTO – Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) issued the following statement after reports that the U.S. District Court has issued a temporary injunction against Senate Bill 27. The law requires candidates to disclose five years of their federal income tax returns before being allowed on California’s ballot. Legislative Democrats pushed for SB 27 because of their hostility toward the current U.S. President.
“This is a huge victory for democracy and California. This is an important step towards proving SB 27 is unconstitutional. Legislative Democrats and the governor attempted to circumvent the will of Californians and suppress voters’ choice. While this is a temporary injunction, I look forward to the written ruling by October 1st,” said Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove.
