Cal State San Marcos Hackson Claims CCAA Player of the Week Honors

CHICO, Calif. – After posting a career-best on the road, Cal State San Marcos junior Akayla Hackson has nabbed California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for Feb. 17-23, her second career weekly honor.

Hailing from Sunnyvale, Hackson averaged 24.5 points on 59% shooting from the field and a 10-of-11 week at the charity stripe to help the Cougars keep pace in their chase for the school’s first CCAA regular-season title.

She opened the road trip with an 18-point effort at Cal State Monterey Bay before going off for a career-high 31 points at Cal State East Bay. Against the Pioneers, Hackson was 10-of-31 from the field with a perfect 9-for-9 effort at the free-throw line in the 85-69 victory in Hayward. Hackson helped the team to a banner night at the line as Cal State San Marcos connected on 25-of-28 at the line coupled with 40 points in the paint to claim the win. It was their sixth game of the season with more than 20 free throw makes, tying a season best. Hackson currently leads the league in free throw percentage, sinking 84.5 percent of her attempts from the line.

Women’s basketball will look to earn a share of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Regular-Season Championship while locking up the No. 1 seed against UC San Diego on Saturday at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear blue to support the Cougars in this pivotal matchup against the Tritons.
