The Sheriff’s Department is providing more access to lifesaving medication to the public in case of an opioid overdose by offering free Harm Reduction Kits. The kits are available from the Vista Sheriff’s Department (325 S. Melrose, Ste. 210). Kits are also available from a deputy on patrol. In either scenario, there are no questions asked. Deputies hope to reduce the risk of opioid overdose by giving the public access to Naloxone, a life-saving medication commonly referred to as Narcan. Naloxone is a medication that can help save lives by reversing the effect of an opioid overdose. A kit contains 2 doses of Naloxone nasal spray along with instructions for use and a resource card with contact information for those wishing to pursue treatment for substance use disorder.
