Oceanside, Calif. — April 2, 2019: On Saturday, June 29, 2019, the Annual Oceanside Independence Parade will honor local leaders and community members with the returning theme of “Hometown Heroes.” The parade will start at 10 a.m. at the intersection of North Coast Highway and Wisconsin Avenue and travel north on Coast Highway to Civic Center Drive. More than 100 parade entries are expected to march, roll, walk and drive down Historic Highway 101.
“The theme ‘Hometown Heroes’ is a great way to recognize individuals who have given back to our great city,” said Cathy Nykiel,
Parade Committee chair for MainStreet Oceanside, the organizer of the parade. “We hope to see everyone in their best patriotic attire, waving their American flags and paying tribute to our nation’s birthday with all of our local businesses and community leaders and partners that make Oceanside a great place to live.”
Three Hometown Heroes will be recognized during this year’s Oceanside Independence Parade: Colleen O’Harra, former Oceanside City Council member and co-founder of the Women’s Resource Center; Larry Hatter, chair, board member and volunteer of numerous community organizations; and Max Disposti, executive director of the North County LGBTQ Resource Center.
A local tradition since 1892, the Oceanside Independence Parade is made possible by the assistance of over 100 volunteers. To participate or volunteer in the parade, complete the parade or volunteer application at oceansideparade.com.
