The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
On March 26, 2020 at about 9:35 p.m., a security guard was on patrol in the area of 2500 S. Santa Fe Avenue in the unincorporated area of Vista. The guard located an adult male lying in a parking lot. The guard checked the welfare of the male and believed he had been shot and was not breathing. The guard called 911 and deputies and fire department personnel responded.
Upon arrival, paramedics attempted life saving measures. Unfortunately, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility of the investigation. During the initial response, deputies contacted several potential witnesses in the area and the investigation is continuing.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will notify the next of kin and perform an autopsy to determine the male’s cause and manner of death.
