Homicide Investigation – San Marcos UPDATE

The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy today of the woman found inside the residence in the 800 block of El Toro Lane and identified her as sixty-eight-year-old Denise Elaine McCarthy. Denise resided at the residence. Denise’s family has been notified of her death. The preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma and the manner of death is homicide.

The male rescued from the vehicle fire has been identified as Denise’s son, twenty-nine-year-old Sean McCarthy. Sean remains in the hospital and his condition is grave.

Just after 6:30 p.m. on June 8, 2021, officers with the Escondido Police Department responded to the 1800 block of Foothill View Place in the city of Escondido for a report of a vehicle on fire and a man inside. Fire personnel arrived and rescued the man from inside the vehicle. The man was transported to a local area hospital burn ward. The man’s condition is grave.

Based on the circumstances, officers and deputies went to a related residence in the 800 block of El Toro Lane in the city of San Marcos. Officer and deputies entered the residence to check the welfare of a woman who lives there. Unfortunately, they found the woman deceased inside.

The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation. There are no suspects believed to be outstanding.
