The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy today and has identified the victim as thirty-seven-year-old Arthur Sharlan Hancock. He is a resident of Ramona. The victim’s family has been notified of his death. The preliminary cause of death is gunshot wounds and the manner of death is homicide.

Homicide detectives continued their investigation and identified thirty-two-year-old Elias Ruiz as the suspect in the murder of the adult male. Ruiz is a resident of Ramona. Ruiz was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail for one count of 187(a) PC – Murder.
Information from first release:
On January 18, 2021, just after 12:30 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies and officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to the 700 block of Main Street in Ramona for a report of a shooting. When deputies and officers arrived, they found an adult male who had been shot. They attempted lifesaving measures until relieved by fire personnel. unfortunately, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation.
The identity of the male is known to investigators; however, his name is being withheld pending family notification.
