The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
On February 29, 2020 at 10:00 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a call of a reported fight at the intersection of W. Vista Way and Valencia Drive, in the city of Vista. Deputies arrived and found an adult male laying on the sidewalk with severe injuries. Paramedics arrived to render aid and subsequently transported the male to a local hospital by ambulance. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased at 10:36 p.m. Witnesses told deputies that three adult male Hispanics and one adult female Hispanic had attacked the victim at the intersection. All of the suspects were believed to be in their early 20’s. The victim had fallen to the ground in the street but managed to crawl onto the sidewalk before collapsing. Deputies canvased the area looking for the possible suspects but were unable to locate them.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will notify the next of kin and perform an autopsy to determine the male’s cause and manner of death.
