Armed Forces Day 2025 will be on Saturday, May 17th, a day to pay tribute to military personnel currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. The day takes place during Armed Forces Week. The day was first observed in 1950 when President Harry Truman was in office. It became a National Holiday in 1961, and its purpose was to thank and support military personnel and their families for their service. Armed Forces Day is different than Veterans Day and Memorial Day as it honors military personnel still serving in the nation’s Armed Forces. Armed Forces Day is also celebrated in other countries called by a different name and not in May.
Other separate days of recognition for military personnel in 2025 are:
National Vietnam War Veterans Day – March 29
Memorial Day – May 26
U.S. Army Birthday – June 14
Coast Guard Day – August 4
Air Force Day – September 18
U.S. Navy Day – October 27
Marine Corps Birthday – November 10
Veterans Day – November 11
National Guard Day – December 13
Space Force Birthday – December 20

If you are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, thank you for your service and enjoy May 17th as your day to honor you. If you are a Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, even though this is not your specific day, we still thank you for your service.
