SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Jaime Jacob and Savannah Magallon of the Cal State San Marcos women’s golf team were named to the 2019-2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 At-Large Team on Thursday morning.
The 2019-2020 Academic All-District Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.
With Jacob touting a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average, the three-time CCAA Women’s Golfer of the Year and back-to-back WGCA All-America first-team honoree had yet another memorable season. Jacob paced the CCAA and closed the spring as one of five Division II women to average under-par scoring this season with a 71.38. She closed the year with three individual medalist honors as the Cougars earned five team titles in six stroke-play events. The defending NCAA Champion shot a season-best 7-under 137 in her final tournament at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational. Of her 13 rounds played, Jacob finished with five rounds under 70 and nine rounds of par or better.
For her efforts, Jacob was named the CCAA Golfer of the Week six times this season. The Encinitas native was also selected to represent the United States as the lone Division II student-athlete on the 12-member squad in the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup.
This is the third consecutive year Jacob has earned Academic All-District honor. She also received Academic All-America first-team honors in 2018-2019 and third-team honors in 2017-2018. In addition, Jacob earned the CCAA Championship Scholar Award for the second time in her career this season.
Sporting a 3.93 cumulative GPA, Magallon was a WGCA All-America honorable mention for the first time and earned All-CCAA first-team honors for the third time in her career this season. The senior from San Diego shot a collegiate career-best 69 at the Dixie State Invitational in Fall 2019. For 2020, Magallon shot a career-low scoring average of 75.38. Additionally, she had four rounds of par or better to match her 2018-19 totals. In her final collegiate contest at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational, Magallon placed second.
This is Magallon’s second Academic All-District honor after earning the same award last season. Last year, her strong academics also earned her the CCAA Championship Scholar Award.
Jacob and Magallon will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced from June 16-19.
